The film director Phil Comeau, born in Baie Sainte-Marie, has directed more than a hundred films, half of which are about the Acadians. The Canadian director having won the most awards, his films have gathered more than 700 international awards at festivals and some of his films have been shown in up to 200 countries.
His film "Belle-Ile en Acadie" earned the Guinness World Record for "the documentary with the most awards won."
He has participated in the five World Acadian Congresses (CMA) held since 1994. At each World Congress, the pride for the Acadian culture at this international event inspires him. At this Congress, Phil will present two of his multiple award-winning Acadian films that explore about the cultural ties between the Acadians here and those in France: “Racines, diaspora et guerre” and “Belle-Ile en Acadie.”
Phil Comeau is a member of the Order of Canada, the Order of Nova Scotia, the Order of New Brunswick, the Ordre des francophones d'Amérique in Québec, the Order of La Pléiade, and was recently promoted to the rank of "Officer" of the Order of Arts and Letters of France.
