Germaine Comeau was born in Yarmouth, N.S., and now lives in the Baie Sainte-Marie village of La Butte. She studied at Collège Sainte-Anne, the University of Ottawa and Sorbonne Nouvelle. For 27 years, she was in charge of publications at the Centre provincial de ressources pédagogiques. She has published three novels with Éditions d'Acadie, and subsequently with Éditions Perce-Neige: L'été aux puits secs, Loin de France and Laville, as well as the text 101 East, published in 2017. Over the years, as a freelance translator, she has translated a wide variety of texts. Germaine also wrote and produced a number of plays and musical shows in Baie Sainte-Marie between 1970 and 2014, which helped showcase the artistic and musical talents of the people of the Bay. She is now working on a new personal writing project.
