Barry Jean Ancelet is professor emeritus and tenured researcher at the Center for Louisiana Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has published numerous articles and books on the French fact in Louisiana, including Cajun and Creole Folktales (1994), Cajun Country (1991) and Musiciens cadiens et creoles (1984; 1999), as well as two illustrated tales, Who is the stronger? (Bouton d'Or Acadie, 1999) and John the Hunter and his dogs (Bouton d'Or Acadie and University of Louisiana, 2016). He was also part of the team for the Dictionary of Louisiana French (2009). He participates in the production of festivals, concerts, records, exhibitions and documentaries. Recently, he appeared in Carte de Visite: Barry Ancelet: Cajun Poet and Folklorist , by Normand Sauvé (TFO), in Zachary Richard, Always Battler by Phil Comeau (Bellefeuille Productions, Montreal) and in Cris sur le bayou by Danic Champoux ( Urbania, Montreal).
His alter ego, Jean Arceneaux, is a poet, playwright, singer and storyteller. He notably signed Suite du loup (Perce-Neige, 1998) and Le trou dans le mur (Perce-Neige, 2012).
