Photo d'Amis du Teche

Simply named because its members are friends who grew up living on the historic Bayou Teche in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Amis du Teche is steeped in the Louisiana Cajun music culture. Their rich connection with their hometown of Breaux Bridge and growing up along the banks of Bayou Teche have brought each member together. The bayou is where they met, jammed, performed, and now recorded.

Now 22 years of age, Adeline Miller has been playing fiddle since she was 5. She has performed Cajun music with her younger brother, Robert, as far as Portland, Maine and Nova Scotia, Canada, for their Festival Acadien de Clare at a ripe age of 16. Adeline has attended the Sainte Anne University French Immersion Program in Nova Scotia three times to find the true meaning of the songs she sings. She later pursued a minor in French at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the heart of Acadiana. She is a graduate from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette as part of the Cajun Ensemble, Bluegrass Ensemble, and String Ensemble where she has transitioned to mandolin, guitar, and singing other genres of music. This past summer was the bands’ first international tour in Canada performing throughout New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. Even sharing their unique cultural connection headlining in front of the Church at Grand Pré, Acadiens’ National Historic Site. Because of these efforts, Amis du Teche was selected as a member of Louisiana Tourism’s Music Ambassador Program. Adeline has enjoyed performing at many local festivals as well such as Festival Acadien, Festival International, BlackPot, and Celtic Bayou Festival just this past year. She and Amelia are regarded as upcoming young women of Cajun Music and are passionate about carrying the torch of Cajun Culture throughout each generation.

Also 22, Amelia Powell is a guitarist and singer with deep Louisiana roots, a lifelong familial love of Appalachian music, and a deep commitment to original, expressive songs. She inherited the Cajun legacy of her grandfather, Dewey Balfa, and has been performing around the world since childhood. She tours regularly with her father, Dirk Powell, and has recorded and/or shared the stage with artists such as Joan Baez, Rhiannon Giddens, Heidi Talbot, Cedric Watson, and many more. She has appeared on TV and radio around the world and been in films such as “Behold the Earth.” She makes her home in Louisiana where she performs with her bands Amis du Teche and There She Goes and is in high demand on stage and in the studio.

Robert Miller (17), brother to Adeline, has been playing Cajun music since he was five with acoustic guitar, bass guitar and upright bass. He has performed with his sister, Adeline, as far as Portland, Maine, in the USA and Nova Scotia, Canada. Robert has also played for local venues and festivals alongside his sister for such as the prominent Festivals Acadians et Creoles, Festival International, & Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.

Laykin Usie (18) has been playing drums since he was three years old and performs several other instruments as well. He is the son of accomplished bass player and drummer Gary Usie who has performed Cajun music most of his life and performs with well-known artists such as Marc Broussard, Jamie Bergeron, and Roddie Romero.

With a very rich repertoire reaching deep into the archives of Cajun music classics and drawing from the best compositions of their contemporary peers, the talent, cultural influences, and musical curiosity of Amis du Teche should peak the best of music lovers' and aficionados' curiosity as we watch this young vibrant band emerge!
