Originally from West Pubnico in the Municipality of Argyle, Nova Scotia, Mr. Surette is the President and Vice-Chancellor of Université Sainte-Anne.


He was a founding member and Chair of the 3rd Congrès mondial acadien, which took place in Nova Scotia in 2004.

He has received many awards and recognitions. He received the Père Léger Comeau certificate to recognize his commitment to the development of Nova Scotia’s Acadian community, the rank of Commander from the Ordre de la Pléiade for service to the ideals of cooperation and friendship and promoting the role of the French language and was named a Knight of the Ordre des Palmes académiques for service to universities, education and science by the French Republic.
